Smith was injured during the off season and could not play in any friendlies due to visa problems, which ment he had little match fitness for when he made his debut in Round 3 against Salford. After a poor season at Wakefield due to injuries which led to poor form, it is believed that Smith has signed a new one year contract at the West Yorkshire based club in order to have another chance at top flight rugby.
