Career

Wester began her career as a silhouette sports shooter and over her career, she has won eight national titles in silhouette rifle marksmanship, along with many national records. She began skating as cross-training for shooting after her father read that skating could enhance her balance and thus improve her shooting skills. Soon after stepping on the ice however, she changed her focus from shooting to skating.

Wester started skating at the America's Ice Gardens (Dallas, TX) in the fall of 1996, under coach Monica Reyes. She began ice dancing in the spring of 1999, partnered with Nicholas Hart at the Junior level. That partnership dissolved in October of that same year. After which point, Wester continued ice dancing, testing through her US Gold Medal by the following summer.

Wester then partnered with (now world medalist for Italy) Massimo Scali. They skated in shows throughout 2000 in Europe however, never competed together. In the spring of 2001, Wester returned to the United States after living and training with Scali in Milan, Italy. In 2002 she competed on the Junior level with Jonathan Harris at the US National Championships. However, that partnership ended immediately following that competition.

Not long after, Daniil Barantsev moved to the United States (2002), he and Wester were teamed up by his then-coach, Nikolai Morozov

 in March 2003.

Although Wester and Barantsev started skating together in 2003, due to paperwork issues, they were unable to compete nationally until 2005, and were unable to compete internationally until the 2007/2008 season due to the Russian federation's refusal to give Barantsev a release to compete for the United States. He finally obtained his release, allowing him to compete for the United States Team internationally in January 2007. However, this coincided with Wester injuring her knee in a practice immediately prior to the 2007 U.S. Championships
