Independent Business Alliances are based on a model Milchen pioneered in Boulder, Colorado in 1997 with the Boulder Independent Business Alliance. Milchen also served as executive director of ReclaimDemocracy.org, a group focused on revoking corporate control over law and politics and revitalizing grassroots democracy. Additionally, he is a co-founder of the Citizens' Debate Commission
