 competition and subsequently launched a show on the Food Network channel titled "Sandwich King." Mauro, of Chicago, Illinois, aired the first episode of his show on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The Food Network Star judges consistently noted Mauro's humor and likable persona, which were both evidenced in the first episode of "Sandwich King." During the competition with fourteen other contestants to win the opportunity to have a cooking show, Mauro did not waver from his culinary point of view of concentrating on sandwiches.

Mauro rejects criticisms that there isn’t enough to say about sandwiches to fill out a season, noting that any handheld "meal" could be classified as a sandwich.
