He then founded Niche Media Holdings in 1998, building what BusinessWeek calls “a fast growing empire” of upscale glossies that has cornered the regional publishing market with the country’s preeminent local luxury magazines. In 2005 Binn was profiled in Forbes magazine's "Forbes 400". He was Awarded Ernst & Young's "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 2006 and in 2007 was inducted into the American Advertising Federation's “Advertising Hall of Achievement” 2007 (the only magazine recipient for that year). In 2008 Binn was featured in Crain's coveted "40 Under 40" list of successful entrepreneurs. And in 2009, Binn received the Boston University's Distinguished Alumni Award for Service to Profession for his leadership and cutting edge work in the field of communication presented by Dean Tom Fielder (from a total of over 25,000 candidates) and currently serves on the board.

In 2006 Niche Media was purchased at a non-disclosed amount by the Greenspun Media Group (GMG) to become one of the largest networks of exclusive city-specific and custom publishing companies in the country. In 2007 GMG purchased The Ocean Drive Media Group and merged the operations under Niche Media. Binn served as Founder and CEO of Niche Media for five years. In that capacity he oversaw the titles he founded including: Art Basel Miami Beach, Aspen Peak, Boston Common, Capitol File, Gotham, Hamptons, Los Angeles Confidential, Michigan Avenue, Ocean Drive, Philadelphia Style, Vegas, and Wynn. In December 2010, Binn relinquished his CEO title and continues to support the Company.

In August 2010, Binn was appointed as Chief Advisor to Gilt Groupe's CEO & Founder Kevin Ryan (formerly Ryan served as CEO of DoubleClick and lead the sale of it in 2005 for $1.1 billion to Hellman and Friedman. DoubleClick was acquired by Google for $3.1 billion in 2008). In this position, Binn works across each of Gilt's business lines: women’s apparel and accessories; food (Gilt Taste); men's lifestyle; children; home; travel (Jetsetter); and local services and experiences (Gilt City). In this capacity Binn lends support to the company’s continued efforts to nurture and develop relationships with the world’s most prestigious brands. Gilt Groupe launched in November 2007 and has established itself as the leading fashion and travel online retailers in the US and Japan with a broad range of daily sales for its several million invitation-only members. Gilt Groupe reported full-year gross revenues of $25 million in 2008, since then the company has added additional business lines in which gross revenues for 2011 will be approximately $500 million. The company is currently valued at over $1 billion and is considered second to Amazon as the most valuable U.S. e-commerce company. Gilt Groupe employs over 750 full-time employees.

In his current role at Colin Cowie Enterprises, Binn provides counsel and strategic guidance to the company and Cowie as the company expands its business endeavors. Binn concentrates his time on new business development, corporate partnerships and other strategic initiatives both domestic and international in life and style, events, television and digital media categories. Binn's expertise and track record in the luxury world spanning fashion, art, entertaining and media has broadened Cowie's global business portfolio as he expands into new categories under the Colin Cowie Enterprises umbrella.
