Political career

Lakeman served as the President of the Edmonton association for the Canadian Labour Party Alberta branch. He later left the Labour Party to help form the Communist Party.

Lakeman ran in numerous provincial and federal elections, he served as the very first leader of the Alberta Communist Party since its inception.
