Shewchuk was acquired by the Swarm on February 8, 2011 in a trade that swapped Tim Campeau of the Swarm and Minnesota's second round selection in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft. The Swarm also received Colorado's 4th round selection in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.
