Blake grew up in Chicago
before moving to New York
in 1994 to study at New York University
. She dropped out of NYU intent on getting a record deal, and busked in Washington Square Park
. A three-song demo tape created interest and, within nine months of leaving NYU, she was signed by A&M Records in 1996. Her debut album, self-titled Jamie Blake, was released in August 1997. She later returned to NYU and completed her degree.
She made a special guest appearance as herself on the television show "Beverly Hills 90210". Songs from that album appeared on the television show Gossip Girl
in 2009. In 2000 she created a second album for Geffen Records
as part of the duo "Vixtrola"; the album was finally released digitally in 2011, after being shelved for many years by their record label. Songs from the album have appeared in the movie Darkness Falls
and various television shows. She has worked alongside Jeff Buckley

In 2011, following an appearance at the Nano-Mugen Festival in Yokohama, Japan with The Rentals, Jamie was asked to co-write and perform the song "Souls," with Japanese Alt Rock band the HIATUS, she also contributed vocals to the HIATUS song "On The Way Home", both appear on their third album entitled "A World Of Pandemonium".
