Introduction

Jaideep Prabhu is the Jawaharlal Nehru Professor of Indian Business and Enterprise and Director of the Centre for India & Global Business at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He has held positions at Imperial College London, Tilburg University (the Netherlands) and UCLA, and was an Advanced Institute of Management (AIM) Research Innovation Fellow (2007-2009). He has a BTech from IIT Delhi, and a PhD from the University of Southern California, and has been a Fellow of Clare College since 2009.

Research

Professor Prabhu has published on topics related to marketing, innovation, strategy and international business in leading international journals. His current research is on the globalization of innovation, and the role of emerging economies in this process. He is particularly interested in how multinationals and domestic firms are using emerging markets as a lab to do affordable and sustainable innovation for global application. His book on this subject, Jugaad Innovation: Think Frugal, Be Flexible, Generate Breakthrough Growth, co-authored with Navi Radjou and Simone Ahuja and published by Jossey-Bass, is due out in April 2012.

Editorial Positions

Professor Prabhu is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, the International Journal of Research in Marketing and the Journal of Management Studies, and a member of the senior advisory board of the European Journal of Marketing.

Consultancy

Professor Prabhu has consulted with or taught executives from ABN Amro, Bertelsmann AG, British Telecom, the UK's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), EDS, Egg Banking, IBM, ING Group, Laird plc, NHS, Nokia, Oce Copiers, Philips, Roche, Shell, Vodafone, and Xerox among other organisations in Colombia, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, UK and US.

Professor Prabhu’s awards include: Runner-up for the Harold H. Maynard Award, 2009; IBM faculty award for research into the impact of new technology on Indian retail, 2009; Winner, AMA TechSIG Award for the Best Article on Technology or Innovation, 2008; Runner-up, AMA TechSIG Award for the Best Article on Technology or Innovation, 2007; and Winner, AMA TechSIG Award for the Best Article on Technology or Innovation, 2004.
