from 1993 to 1998. He was defeated in his 1997 re-election bid by John Talbott. He also served as County Commissioner and is a former Spokane Chronicle reporter. He was elected in November 1993, receiving 31,130 votes to 27,240 for Joel Crosby. While serving as county commissioner in the early 1970s Geraghty resigned to take a position as Vice-President on the Expo '74 World's Fair commission. The fair was being hosted in Spokane in 1974 and a major downtown renovation and face-lift was taking place to bring the fair to Eastern Washington. Twenty years later Geraghty would be influential as mayor in the revitalization efforts of commerce for downtown Spokane with the development of River Park Square. Although controversial at the time, the efforts have seemed to have paid off for the city of Spokane giving the former mayor and lifelong resident of the Spokane an economic legacy. Geraghty was also instrumental in the relations of the Sister-Cities of Spokane, making Nishinomiya, Japan and Limerick, Ireland sister cities to Spokane. Though the position of Mayor was not political, Geraghty is a Democrat.
