Research activities are concentrated mainly in digital signal processing, audio engineering, and psycho acoustics, eg. projects in analysis and syntheses of sound and loudness perception.

At IEM, compositions students are trained in musical acoustics, sound synthesis, algorithmic composition, and real-time systems.
