Academics

As of 2010, there were over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students at IU Kokomo and 81 full-time faculty. The university serves a 14-county region in north central Indiana, and offers more than 70 Indiana University degrees, including bachelor's degrees in many arts and sciences disciplines, informatics, medical imaging technology, criminal justice, nursing, business, education, and general studies; and master's degrees in public management, business, education, nursing, and liberal studies; and a limited number of associate degree programs.

IU Kokomo has a low 15 to 1 student-faculty ratio and the lowest tuition of any four-year public institution in Indiana.

Campus Life

IU Kokomo offers a variety of campus activities and resources to its students. New outdoor basketball and volleyball courts were completed in the fall of 2010 and in the spring of 2011 coaches were hired to head men's basketball and women's volleyball teams that will start competing in the fall of 2011 and plan to compete on the NAIA level. Campus events are highlighted by the annual Take Back the Night/Angel Walk rally every spring, regular student and faculty exhibitions at the IUK Art Gallery, open forums on current international events, and the annual IUK Symposium of Student Research.

History

Indiana University Kokomo was formed when Indiana University acquired, during 1945, the former Kokomo Junior College. Kokomo Junior College was formed in 1932 by John and George Beauchamp.

The original campus was on Sycamore Street. In 1967 students raised money to have the Well House moved from the original campus location to the current campus.
