From 1921, Hydestile was the site for two hospitals: King George V Hospital (formerly a TB Sanatorium) and from 1941, St. Thomas' Hospital (formed from the WWII evacuation of the Lambeth teaching hospital). The hospitals were demolished and redeveloped in the late 1990s following years of dereliction.
