History

The First Grammar School was initially built in 1904. The election was held with 21 registered voters casting ballots. The district was established in 1905, and the first school opened in a 12' board shack, with 13 students of all ages. The families of the students chipped in to hire a young high school girl as teacher, at a monthly fee of $50.

Huntington Park Union High School District was organized in 1909.

The cornerstone for the first high school building was laid on December 2, 1909, and the first commencement exercise was held there on June 17, 1910, with Miss Olive Petties being the single graduating student.

The same group of pioneer leaders, who seemed to be involved in all the progressive actions of the early years, went on to expand the district, to build two more high schools, Bell and South Gate, both of which were then in the Huntington Park Union High School District, and several grammar schools.

The District gained a reputation as one of the finest independent school districts in California prior to 1932, when it was consolidated with the Los Angeles City School District.

In January, 1932, Huntington Park Union High School District, as a political entity, passed out of existence. The Huntington Park Union High School now became a unit of the Los Angeles City school system, and its official name became Huntington Park High School.

The school itself went through two crisises. The First building was burned down On Oct.11, 1911. The second building was wrecked by the violent earthquake Of March 10, 1933.

Huntington Park is now Still Standing, and prepares to celebrate its Centennial Anniversary Festivities(1909-2009).

Alma Mater

On her green stands HP High School
‘Neath fair skies of blue.
May she ever stand so proudly
Glorious to view.

Lift the chorus, speed it onward
Over hill and dale
Hail to thee, our alma mater,
HP hail, all hail!

Through her halls the memories linger
Of our high school days,
Comradeship and love and courage,
Loyalty and praise.

Blest by love of all her children,
None will her betray.
See her colors proudly waving,
Hail the Orange and Gray!

HP vs. Bell

The Rivalry between Huntington Park vs. Bell has been going on for many years now. Every year in football the winner gets to take the rivalry trophy home. The battle to prove who's the best started ever since 1936, when HP first took it home. Although Huntington Park has gone through many ups and downs, it has been a tradition not to give up and show those eagles what the mighty, mighty spartans are made of.

Huntington Park Football

Huntington Park High football is a tradition of guts and glory that extends beyond understanding. It is in our blood, our families, our heritage. It is a mindset of never giving up and always expecting victory. It is memories of dirt, tackles, runs, passes, and friendships that players never forget. It is a trust among men that is never broken and never taken for granted. It is a fellowship of few.

It is called a game but it is so much more. It breathes its own life and teaches life's lessons to players, fans, and coaches. It requires a commitment from all to succeed in victory. It requires a character of men that is never tarnished to reach the highest goals. It requires class to achieve the goals and continue on with respect and honor.
