When Emperor Taizu of Song
defeated Meng Cheng, Huarui Furen was captured. Emperor Taizu had heard of her fame as a poet and asked her to recite a poem for him. In the poem she chose for that occasion, she laments the cowardliness of the Shu forces and of her being kept in ignorance of their surrender within the palace walls.
