In the adult entertainment context, the house mother oversees conduct by performers in the dressing room, as well as making sure that performers make it to the stage on time, wearing the appropriate dress or costumes, and introducing new performers to the club code of conduct.

A house mother also builds a relationship with the girls in her charge, and often acts as an intermediary in disputes.

In most clubs, the house mother is 'paid out' a set fee at the end of each shift by the girls who work.
