The X8 is a sporty, agile moped that is fuel efficient and also reliable. The basic engine used is that of the SRX Shadow but the combustion chamber, the cylinder and the exhaust have been modified to provide more sporting performance. As any top of the range scooter, the X8R-S has a full instrument panel (speedometer, fuel gauge, necessary instruments) an electric starter, starter safety interlock and a 6 litre tank providing a substantial range. These are now basic features on even the lowest-priced Chinese scooters, which are easily outperforming the aging X8.

Mechanical and Electrical Speed Restriction

The maximum speed of the Honda X8 is restricted both mechanically and electronically to improve safety and to necessarily adhere to some local market laws. For example, in the UK, motorbikes with a displacement capacity of below 50 cc must be restricted to 31 mph.
The first point of restriction is the CDI unit located in the front section of the bike. one of the features of this electronic device, limits the revolutions of the engine. It is possible to disable this action.
The second method for restricting the speed of this bike, employed by Honda, is the undersized transmission variator. It is possible to replace the stock variator with an aftermarket item of larger size. The drive belt and weighted rollers must also be changed.
