Originally known as Highway 16, the channel was renamed The Highway as part of the Sirius/XM channel merger on November 12, 2008. It is the only Sirius XM Radio channel that replaced the end's channel number with the beginning's "The," during the merger. Channels such as Area and Spa dropped their channel numbers during the channel merger (even though they're still on their current Sirius channel positions). One exception is Shade 45
