Hethersett High School is coeducational and students are admitted without regard to ability.

The school is situated next to the town of Wymondham - Wymondham High School too is a popular state school in that area of Norfolk.

Until the beginning of 2011, Hethersett High School and CNS (City of Norwich School) were in a joint partnership, whereby students leaving the high school in Year 11 had priority over students from other school to attend CNS. As part of the partnership, teachers from each school would often teach at the opposite location during the week, however, this partnership was disbanded in March 2011 by the Norfolk County Council.
