The school currently is enrolled with nearly 2,500 students in grades 9–12. Twice has the school's student body swelled to 4,000, forcing the HUSD to open Sultana High School, in 1995 and Oak Hills High School, in 2009. The school's official mascot is the Scorpion and the colors are black & gold.

Hesperia High School first opened its doors in the fall of 1984. Since the opening of Sultana High School in 1995, both schools have competed in the "Key Game," for football. All sports and competitions between the two schools usually draw very large crowds, whether they are watching tennis, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, drama, band or cheerleading competitions. Sultana leads the Key Game series, 9-5. Hesperia is currently the key holder after successfully defending the Key twice with 24-10, 50-0 and 21-14 wins in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

The rappers "New Boyz" were from Hesperia High School. Legacy and Ben J met at this high school and started their famous careers of rapping.
