The current principal is Mr. Mike Kelley.Herbert Hoover High School claims to be a "magnet school for technology" (i.e. a school to attract students by the use of technology in many classes), but in 2006 Herbert Hoover lost this status. Herbert Hoover has many special classes including AFJROTC, a cooking class, shop, forensic lab, and aviation.

. They are the first band to have won the Festival Grand Championship, which was first awarded in 1913. They were also the first band to have won the festival five consecutive times. They have a total of nine wins at the festival (1970, 1977, 1980-84, 1987-88). They have also had 2013 girls named Miss Kanawha Majorette.

The Marching Huskies also host their own band festival for other high school bands around the world.
