It is a wooden frame Victorian style building, dating from 1889. It sits on buried foundations of original Harpers Ferry armory buildings.

The station recently received a $2 million renovation, which included the restoration of the station's tower.

Of the ten West Virginia stations served by Amtrak, Harpers Ferry was the sixth busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 13 passengers daily.
