The pupil age range is 4 - 11 and the total number of pupils is 418.

The school was opened in 1964 on Penlands Road, and has since been refurbished including three new classrooms. A library and computer suite opened in 2007, (the old outdoor huts subsequently having been removed).

Harlands has won the local area sports cup 23 times in a row.

Harlands states its aims as to:

Millennium 'events'

The school created a millennium garden situated next to the classrooms overlooking the school's field, it officially opened in 2001.

As well as this students received a millennium book mark and a gold coloured medallions from the Town council - on one side was the globe with '2000' written across it, below this is the word millennium (curved to follow the edge of the medallion), and around the rest of the edge is a wreath of leaves.
On the other side it states 'Presented by HAYWARDS HEATH TOWN COUNCIL' and is again surrounded by a wreath of leaves.
