History

The state of Utah purchased the ranch in 1946 from the Box Elder Hardware Company, using money from the Wildlife Restoration Act. The original size of the ranch was 7560 acre (30.6 km²; 11.8 sq mi), but acquisitions by the state enlarged it to about 19000 acre (76.9 km²; 29.7 sq mi).
