 in 1936 with the SS Number 164 526 and the NSDAP number 2 570 587 and was posted to the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler and took command of a platoon in the 14th Company LSSAH. In November 1942 he was transferred to command a platoon in the 4th Company, 1st SS Pioneer Battalion LSSAH and then finally in 1943 he was transferred to command the 2nd Company, SS Panzer Regiment 1 LSSAH. It was while in command of this company that he was awarded the German Cross in Gold
