Hans Gaffron

Dr. Hans Gaffron is born in Lima, Peru, on May 17, 1902, as the son of the German physician Eduard Gaffron and his wife Hedwig von Gevekot.

He was one of the pre-eminent experts on photo synthesis and the bio-chemical processes of plant metabolism. One of his results was the find of green algae producing Hydrogen in an environment that starves them of Sulfur. This is a trait that may now be technologically exploited for the production of hydrogen fuel.
