. The school serves about 450 students in grades 9 to 12 in the Hanover-Horton School District.

The school's colors are red and white, and the mascot is the "Hanover-Horton Comet".

History

Before the merger of Hanover Schools and Horton Schools in 1958, each district was independent and possessed one elementary and one high school per each district. During the heyday of Hanover and Horton, this system was fairly efficient, while also meeting the needs of the students. However, as the populations of Hanover and Horton began to shrink, so did school enrollment. Ultimately, the two fledgling districts merged to become what we know today as the Hanover-Horton School District.

Classes

Hanover-Horton High School offers many classes including the basic Math, Science, History, and English classes, such as Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology, Chemistry, World Studies, Creative Writing, and English Life Skills. In addition, they offer more in-depth classes, such as Mythology, Psychology, Sociology, Astronomy, and Anatomy.

Fine and Performing Arts

Hanover-Horton offers a range of Fine Arts programs, which include Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Theater, and Choir.

Foreign Language Classes/Programs

Generally, two foreign language programs are in operation in Hanover-Horton High School, Spanish and French.

School Newspaper

The Hanover-Horton High School journalism class students run a school newspaper called the "Skywriter." The "Skywriter" covers a wide range of topics, from the many sports functions in the school, to general news, editorials, and trivia.

Sports Functions

H.H. High School maintains a football team, as well as cross country, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, golf, track and field, girls soccer and bowling teams.

General Information

Currently, Hanover-Horton Schools spends $7,886 per pupil. The district spends 62% on instruction, 33% on support services, and 4% on other elementary and secondary expenditures. The student-teacher ratio is 20 students per one teacher. H.H. High School has a 6.74% annual dropout rate, which is 2% less than the national average dropout rate of 8.7%.
