History

The Facility was originally known as the Gannon Auditorium, or affectionately called "The Audi" by long time Gannon faithful. The facility was rededicated and renamed the Hammermill Center in February 1983 in honor of the Hammermill Paper Company, whose generosity enabled the University to make necessary repairs and improvements.

Atmosphere

Gannon's men's basketball teams have had a decided home-court advantage for many years, thanks to the diehard fans known as the "Gannon Faithful" for their aggressiveness and action used to created loud noises. Filled to the rafters on most nights, the Hammermill Center has been called one of the most hostile environments in DII basketball. Here are some quotes from opposing coaches who have coached in the Hammermill Center:
"This crowd is intense...The fans are close to the floor...It is a challenging place to play, especially come tournament time."
