Haemodorum coccineum
Encyclopedia
Haemodorum coccineum is a species of flowering plant found in open woodland and forest in Northern Australia.

It has a grasslike appearance, with smooth, narrow and slightly leathery leaves arising from the base of the plant. Flowering occurs during the wet season (Nov-March). The flowers occur in prominent inflorescences on stiff erect stalks and are deep red or orange-red in colour. Both the flowers and roots are used by Aborigines to produce a high quality red dye for woven baskets and bags.
