Arguably, the first release to fall into the grindie subgenre was a song by Marvin the Martian aka Marv the Marsh and his group Why Lout?

 was, true to form another Grindie album but rather than stick any MC over a popular indie track, he developed the genre into its own unique sound by placing popular singers on truly grime influenced beats.

The genre has proliferated, so that there are bands forming that truly 'fit' into the grindie genre, rather than DJs using samples of indie tracks and getting MCs to rap over them. Bands like Hadouken!
