History

Greenbrier was built in 1964. The architect was Ruck Pate and the construction manager was Turner Construction Company. Greenbrier was remodeled and expanded during the 1995-1996 school year. During this time, the students went to Rand School. The remodeling was completed on October 8, 1996. Greenbrier celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2004.

Through the years Greenbrier has had 6 different principals. Past principals were Mr. Al Swanson, Mr. Jim Hall, Mrs. Rochelle Fingerhut, Mr. Chris Fahnoe, and Mrs. Shelley Fabrizio. The current principal is Mrs. Ann Hofmeier, who joined the school in the fall of 2011.

. Greenbrier got this award for effort that continually demonstrates the principle of reduce, reuse, and recycle. Greenbrier won this award three times: 1999-2000, 2000–2001 and 2001-2002. In 2011, Greenbreir Elementary School was one of 19 Illinois schools to receive the National School of Excellence Award.
