 neighborhood of Philadelphia, founded in 1916 and repurposed in 2007. Medical care began on the site in 1889 under the name Philadelphia Polyclinic. Currently, the site is a rehabilitation and long-term acute-care facility known as Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse. The current facility is owned by University of Pennsylvania Health System

History

The origins of the hospital are with the Philadelphia Polyclinic, founded in 1889 in the area of 20th and South streets in Philadelphia. In 1916 the University of Pennsylvania

 Graduate School of Medicine established Graduate Hospital as a clinical teaching facility. After losing money for several years, Penn spun off Graduate as an independent, non-profit hospital in 1977. In 1996, Graduate became part of the Allegheny Health System based in Pittsburgh. When Allegheny went bankrupt in 1998, the hospital was acquired by Tenet Healthcare

. Tenet had financial trouble in 2005, and in 2006 it sought to sell this and two other Philadelphia hospitals. UPHS finalized the deal in 2007, closed the facility as a full-service hospital, and began the conversion to a specialty medical facility.

Current situation

An urgent care practice is temporarily operating on the first floor of the Tuttleman building on the Graduate Hospital site. Also on the site are two specialty hospitals. Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital—Philadelphia is a 38-bed long-term acute care hospital. The Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine is a 58-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility.
