The company was founded by Johannesburg businessman Rodney Berman in 1977. Since its einception the company has produced more than 40 world champion boxers, many of them sporting legends (Thulani "Sugar Boy" Malinga, Jacob "Baby Jake" Matlala, Jan Bergman, Harold Volbrecht and Brian Mitchell).
