. It is part of the St James estate along with Shortroods. The ground was weak and peat-filled until it was prepared for the Airport in the 1960s and the construction of houses was able to take place.

Gockston consisted of terraced houses and 3 storey tenemants. Merksworth High School was also built in the area.

Regeneration of the scheme began in 2002 when the tenemants were demolished along with the high school. Only a few streets of terraced homes remained in Gockston until detached and semi-detached houses were built courtesy of the company Bellway
