. The school was founded as a school for girls in approximately 1880. It has achieved some of the best exam and extracurricular results in the region.

On 28 May 2003, a new school opened, including a pre-school playgroup and Cygnet House. The official opening was performed by HRH The Duke of York

 on 8 October 2003. For the first time, the entire school population of 1200 girls and staff could be accommodated in one building, which, aside from classrooms, includes laboratories, a resource bases, a sports hall, a lecture theatre, fitness suite, assembly and gym halls, a library, a design and technology suite and separate locker rooms. In 2002, the school was ranked second of the controlled schools in Northern Ireland
