Initially started as a festival for tribute bands it has expanded in recent years to include a showcase for new acts as well as the main tribute stage. Interest in the festival and those attending has increased year on year with the 2009 festival seeing almost 6,000 festival goers in attendance.

Since 2006, the headline act has been a non-tribute band or artist. These have included Chas and Dave

Also since 2005 the main stage has been used for tribute bands or artists only, (with the exception to signed performers in the past few years before) however at the 2009 festival, opening tribute band Blurb were unable to attend so unsigned new acts band Heresy opened the festival on the main stage instead.

Glastonbudget 2011 is expected to be the biggest yet, with up to 10,000 people expected to pass through the three day festival.

Organisation

The event is organised annually by a small team including Chris Dunn and Nick Tanner, who take pride in the fact that they have never been to a mainstream music festival. The event is run and managed from a small base at The Harrow Inn, Thurmaston

Charity Links

The festival supports the work of the Soar Valley Music Centre which promotes the enjoyment and understanding of music for learners from all backgrounds. www.musicentre.co.uk

In 2010 Glastonbudget announced that they would be supporting Leicestershire-based charity LOROS www.loros.com LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering) is a local charity providing care and support within Leicestershire and Rutland.

Controversy

In late 2008 a dispute arose between people involved in organizing the festival which eventually ended with the trade mark and glastonbudget.co.uk domain being transferred to Mockstar limited. During the dispute, two websites existed with contradictory claims to who was running the festival.
