"Whispering Your Name" is vocalist Alison Moyet's first single of 1994 and second single from the album Essex.The single became Moyet's eighth single to enter the UK top 40 but also her last to date, peaking at #18 for a total of seven weeks...

The single failed to enter the UK top 40, peaking at #51 for a total of two weeks. This was considered a disappointment after the previous single had peaked into the UK top 20.

A promotional video was created for the single.

The b-side for the single is a remix of "Never Too Late" which the original version appeared on the 1991 "Hoodoo", written by Moyet, Dean Kennedy and Warren Kennedy.

The two other bonus tracks for the single were acoustic versions of "Dorothy" and "Ne Me Quitte Pas". The song "Dorothy" was written about Moyet's maternal grandmother.

The 12" single included the exclusive track "Getting into Something (Midnight Mix)", a remix by Bay Route.
