The single was released on May 11, 2010, and was released via digital download and as an exclusive limited edition 7" single. Green revealed that he wrote the song as a tribute to his beloved home in the state of Georgia

Georgia was first premiered by Green when he released it as a free download via his official website, Ceelogreen.co.uk. The premiere was also packaged with a further exclusive track, "Champain", which appeared to be a track that failed to make the tracklisting of any version of The Lady Killer.
