) for the first time in 24 years and got his hands on the League One title at Brighton to go with it. The 2008–09 season bought Monk a new centre defensive partner in Ashley Williams as Alan Tate was dropped from the side. Good performances came thick and fast as he played most of the games in the Swans first season back in the Championship. The 2009-2010 was not the best for Monk, he only played 22 games due to injuries and suspensions. After Brendan Rodgers became new Swans manager he criticised former manager Paulo Sousa saying his training tactics were not very good. The 2010–11 season started well, as he played every game until he picked another injury against Colchester United in the FA Cup on 8 January 2011.

Monk signed a new three-year contract with Swansea following their promotion to the Premier League in 2011.
