. That site's owner, Shaun Lyon, had decided to close the site and its popular forum. Steven Hill, who had worked as chief administrator for the Outpost Gallifrey forum, decided to create his own site, and many of the staff and readers of the Outpost Gallifrey forums moved to Gallifrey Base. The site is affiliated with the Chicago TARDIS convention.

Like its predecessor, Gallifrey Base is regularly used by the media as a source for opinions and reactions about Doctor Who news from fans and professionals who work on the show. Although Doctor Who cast and crew members, including actor David Tennant

Several Doctor Who information blogs are affiliated with Gallifrey Base. Although they are not officially part of the site, they share some staff and bear a common trade dress
