Etymology

The town's name is derived from two Somali words: Gelin and Soor. Gelin means either "half of the day", "afternoon" or "before noon"; Soor means "hosting guests". Thus, Galinsoor refers to a place where guests were hosted.

Location

Galinsoor is located near the border with the central Galgaduud region. It lies between Galkacyo, the capital of the Mudug region, and Galgaduud's Cadaado District
