The 1857 general election organized the second legislature of the French Second Empire. The election was held on 21 June and 5 July.

The French Constitution of 1852 was enacted on January 14, 1852 by Charles Louis Napoléon Bonaparte . Slightly modified later that year, on December 25, 1852 the constitution became the basis for the creation of the French Second Empire....

 of the empire, partisans of the regime ran as "official candidates" of the regime in often gerrymandered circonscriptions. As official candidates, their campaign expenditures were paid by the government and their campaigns led by the local government.
