The answers on Freeadvice are prepared and updated by lawyers from leading law firms across the country to assist the consumer in dealing with legal issues. The site has grown to include information in just about every major legal area: accident and personal injury law, bankruptcy law, business law, criminal law, employment law, family law, insurance law, intellectual property law, real estate law, and wills, estates & trusts.

In 1999, Freeadvice introduced its 'Legal Forums' enabling its visitors to use their combined knowledge to answer specific questions not already addressed. Visitors can ask and receive advice from their peers as well as practicing attorneys who frequent the site and post their comments. Thousands of questions and responses have been posted since 1999 and all are available for the consumer to view.

Around 2000, Legal Forms provided by U.S. Legal Forms, Inc. were added to the site allowing consumers to cut out attorney costs by providing state specific forms and contracts for a reasonable fee. Today there are over 36,000 different forms available with two of the most popular being the residential lease form and the home sales package.

2004 saw a number of additions to the site including insurance information and advice and a free case review. These Q&A’s address topics provide information related to the buying of different types of insurance and issues related to dealing with insurance companies. Covered topics include: the types of coverage, how much coverage is needed, making and collecting on a claim, and insurance settlements.

A legal news blog is Freeadvice’s latest improvement in better serving the consumer with legal information. It was added the winter of 2006 and offers visitors the opportunity to read comments by legal experts and law bloggers responding to legal news, new cases, proposed legislation, etc.
