Frauenkappelen is first mentioned in 1158 as Capela. In 1574 the town became a parish

Geography

Frauenkappelen has an area, , of 9.27 km² (3.6 sq mi). Of this area, 3.92 km² (1.5 sq mi) or 42.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 3.81 km² (1.5 sq mi) or 41.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.63 km² (0.243244359913297 sq mi) or 6.8% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.86 km² (0.33204785638958 sq mi) or 9.3% is either rivers or lakes and 0.07 km² (17.3 acre) or 0.8% is unproductive land.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.5% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.7%. 40.5% of the total land area is heavily forested. Of the agricultural land, 28.6% is used for growing crops and 12.3% is pastures, while 1.4% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in lakes.
