 with an approximate enrollment of 800. The current school was established in 1962. The schools mascot is the Buffalo and the school colors are Black and Gold.

History

Floyd County High School was built in 1962, and was moved from the original school, which is still in use today as a building known as Schoolhouse Fabrics.

Academics

Floyd County has no middle school, and so its elementary grades range from K-7, while its high school houses grades 8-12.

group A boys outdoor track state championship in 2000. Floyd County won the group A state championship for boys golf in 1985, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007. Floyd County won the group A state championship for girls cross-country in 2003. Floyd County won the group A state championship for girls basketball in 1993, 1994, 2008 and boys basketball group A state championship in 1997.

Floyd County finished as Group A Div. 2 state runner-up in football in 1999,2001, and 2008

The Theater program placed second in District Competition and third in Regional Competition in the 2010 VHSL One-Act Competition. Actors Beth Sagebiel, William Yearout, and Abbie Priest received awards for their acting in Christopher Durang's "The Actor's Nightmare".
The FCHS Golf team won the state championship back to back in 2006 and 2007.

The FCA hosts an annual Spring Fling.

The FCHS Forensics Team has won the Three-Rivers District Championship for the last thirty-eight years.

The FCHS Chorus performs a Madrigal dinner and Musical every school year. Previous musicals have included Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, The Secret Garden, The Butler Did It Singing, and Once Upon a Mattress.

The FCHS Equestrian Team placed second in the Three-Rivers District Championship in 2008. It is coached by Jeff Wood.

FCHS recently started a Diversity club.
