In 2005, Florewood Plantation State Park was closed by the state of Mississippi, and an auction company commissioned by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks to offer at public auction the "entirety of Florewood River Plantation State Park" auctioned off the park on July 23, 2005.
