In recent years, Ferndale High School and Windward High School in Ferndale have excelled in music and sports (specifically, their marching band and football team). A teacher at Vista, Gail Smedley, yearly enters the children in her eighth grade class into a national competition called Future Problem Solving Program. Every year, each of the five teens she selects gets better than 10th place in the important competition. She teaches a wonderful class of seventh and eighth graders.

The current Superintendent of Ferndale School District is Mrs. Linda Quinn.
