Origin of the name of the village

The name of the village comes from the Hungarian word: debrő which means: "wide, plane, flat floor valley". It may have a connection with the word debra which means "waterflown valley" in Slavic dialects.

Sightseeing

In the Árpád age the village belonged to the Aba family. It may have a centre of this genus, because the main importance of the church is where a Hungarian king was entombed. The original church was built in the 11th century and had a Greek cross form its foundation and in the centre there was the crypt of the king Samuel Aba of Hungary

. Later the fourfold symmetric building was transformed into a three nave church, however, the lower church has been preserved.
