Fascia (phone)
Encyclopedia
A fascia is the name given to the removable housing of a mobile telephone. It is most often used to refer to a new housing bought as a fashion accessory
Fashion accessory
Fashion accessories are decorative items that supplement and complement clothes, such as jewelery, gloves, handbags, hats, belts, scarves, wigs, watches, sunglasses, pins, stockings, bow ties, hand fans, leg warmers, leggings, neckties, suspenders, and tights....

to improve the appearance of a mobile phone.

Not all mobile phones support the removal of the external housing and therefore fascias are not normally produced for them. Fascias are usually identical in size and shape to the original housing with the only difference usually being the exterior cosmetic design of the unit.

Although manufacturers produce a small number of "official" fascias for their own phones, most commercially available fascias are produced by third parties and are therefore classed as "unofficial accessories".

Their popularity has waned in recent years due to the increasing complexity in the design of modern mobile phones, thereby making it more difficult for independent manufacturers to produce them.
