History

In 1888, E.H. Morrison named Fairfield after his wife's hometown. Fairfield was officially incorporated on March 3, 1905.

Events

Fairfield has many events. The most popular event is called Flag Day.
Flag day is a day to remember those who have fought to keep the flag flying.
In the morning there is a Fun Run at 7 a.m. followed by the official
Flag Day parade down Main St. at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Then throughout the day there are fun games, booths,
and a beer garden that's open all day.

Businesses

Fairfield incorporates several small businesses including Bullfrogs, St. John's Hardware, True Value/Fairfield Hardware, Kelly's Thrift Store, Cutter's Cafe, Fairfield Bank, Owl Pharmacy, and the U.S. Post Office.
Bullfrogs is a recently remodeled convenient store which is located along Highway 27.
St. John's Hardware is also located along Highway 27 just two blocks north of Bullfrogs.
Along Main street is where most of the businesses are located.
True Value/Fairfield Hardware is a small hardware store located at the north corner of Main Street and Railroad Road.
Kelly's Thrift Store is a grocery store that is located just on the other side of Railroad road from True value/Fairfield Hardware.
Cutter's Cafe is located on the south side of Main Street and Railroad Rd.
Owl Pharmacy is just east of Cutter's cafe.
The Post office is located up towards the top of Main Street on the south side.
The Bank Of Fairfield is on the north side of Main Street.

As of the census of 2000, there were 494 people, 172 households, and 121 families residing in the town. The population density was 786.1 people per square mile (302.8/km²). There were 194 housing units at an average density of 308.7 per square mile (118.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 94.74% White, 0.81% African American, 1.21% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 1.01% from other races

There were 172 households out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.9% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the town the age distribution of the population shows 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 104.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males.
